What's an acceptable temperature?

You may have seen my struggles with my 8800GTX on this forum, however I've now got one from another brand (Sparkle) and the fan seems to be running.

I am wondering if my temperatures are okay. I've not had a crash yet, but I haven't done much testing. It idles at 66 degrees C in windows, and when playing Oblivion on highest settings it goes up to 75 where it seems to stay. Is that acceptable? I have checked in RivaTuner and the fan is at full speed.

I've also tested with FEAR and it goes up to 80 degrees C. I didn't want to hang around to see if it would crash. The fan is indeed spinning, I've looked inside my case. As for case airflow, I have a Stacker 830 with 8x 120mm fans; 2 + PSU are for exhaust, 6 for intake.

What do you think of the temperatures? If the fan on the card is running and I've got plenty of air moving around my case I don't know what I could do to make them better...

Your temps are perfectly fine...load temps on the G80 should just be under 100C...call any tech support line and they'll tell you about the same. Everyone seems so scared when they see 85 under load (guess that's because your CPU would fry with temps like those, be sure your GFX card isn't even running hot then).

It's normal for a 600+ Transistor monster of a core.

And the stock cooler is probably the best air cooler for the card right now.

Only thing better is water cooling (among a few other things)

Thanks very very much for that info, I have had plenty of trouble with my previous XFX card overheating and I just assumed that I'd get temps similar to my CPU!
