Its strange, cause if i hit alt-ctrl-del in XP and check the processes currently running, i got about 5 or 6 copies of this file named 'svchost.exe' running at the same time, each one taking up memory ranging from 2mb all the way to 16mb! Is this normal? and what do they all do!?

I've noticed them too, and they all want access to the internet thru the firewall.

Svchost.exe is a process for service groupings that run from DLLs.

MS probably has a much more detailed explanation on their site, but suffice to say that's it's normal and nothing to be concerned about.

i think the issue is not that it is running, but rather that there are MULTIPLE INSTANCES of it running. i have the same service running in W2k.......but in XP it seems like there are like 3 or more running and they take up memory :(
