And assuming that I could spend up to $45,000.

It seems like "everyone" has a BMW 3-series, so it's not really that unique.

I don't particularly like any of the mercedes models.

My requirements are, quite simply:
-- reliable
-- has a real roof (i.e. not a convertible)
-- has reasonable gas mileage

I don't have a family and I don't need a lot of room. I'd prefer a manual but I'll settle for an automatic.

Um, an S4 would be my vote... certainly not an altima. An audi TT is, imo, a chick car.

Didn't you bitch about your salary a while back? Are you sure you can afford $45k?

Great quote from SinCity:

"New cars, they all look like electric shavers"

Wouldn't fit his milage criteria. Reliability is also a suspect (although the V8 is much better than the 2.7 twin turbo before it).

A mazdaspeed3 and a beater car :) Altho, the mazdaspeed3 isn't distinct enough from the regular 3 IMO to be all that unique.. looks wise anyway. that and the rims are ugly as sin (so are the 07 rims for the regular 3...)

Volvo S60R is nice and rare, although there is a reason everyone has a 3 series instead.

you said unique and then specified 3 requirements that basically negate any unique cars. i was going to suggest the Ford Mustang Cobra II.
