in a little over 3 years i will graduate

with a bit of luck and a bucket load of graft theres a strong possibility that i will graduate with a 1st class degree. if not a 2-1 is definately on the cards.

my course is a Masters in Mechanical Engineering.

so whats a typical salary, in your opinion, for a guy with at least a 2-1 and 1 years experience?

im not american btw.

im at loughborough university, in the midlands (UK). highly respected for engineering. theres absolutely plenty of industrial placements on offer right now....i think pretty much everyone on my course (140 of us) now has a placement secured....and companies are still sending in requests

hopefully its a different story over here in the UK/Europe.

im working for corus next acedmic year...they'll have me doing computer programming and alot of work with Finite Element analysis. and from the sounds of it (my mum works there) they cant wait to get me started

(oh mechanical engineers |= a car mechanic like some one said to me the other day)

some of our guys got picked up by a engineering firm in munchen, germany

56k is about the best I can find.

thats cool

im not someone who needs stacks of cash, long as i can live in relative comfort.

in this country BP offer placements and pay you £16k, and at the end if they like you they invite you back to work for them, sponsor you through the rest of your degree then double your wage to £32K which aint bad for someone just starting

Electrical Engineering would give you a better salary.

thats cool because i can do that as well

electrical and control engineering are big parts of my course, along with thermodynamics, mechanics, thermofluids, maths, and this year bussiness, law and finance.

we've also done plenty of work on IC engines and Jet engines

i think when im done, ill have alot of scope when it comes to jobs....given all the maths, computing and computer work, all the electronics work....ill be able to apply to a wide range of jobs, with a chance of getting them

my mates finishing this year, and has been working for the MoD in the summers, hes going there when hes done and is getting big £££. another guy i know is now an accountant....even though he got a 1st in mech eng

EE makes more? Not according to Salary.com.

Mechanical Engineers in Northern CA make 65k for bachelors, 80k for masters (level II)
Electrical Engineers on the same basis make 64k and 77k respectively.

Times have changed. There is a surplus of EE graduates and not as many ME grads.
