Im building a media playing computer thats gonna go right next to my TV. Basically I need a HSF thats going to be almost silent. My CPU is an Athlon 1.4GHz...its not going to be overclocked or anything so I dont need the most powerful HSF out there. Just something that will work and something thats going to be real quiet.

cheap would be nice too ;)

does anyone have any sugestions? (or even one for sale:) )

Athlon 1.4GHz put out some serious heat so you have to settle for something less than silent. I imagine that GC68 from SVC is the minimum you could get away with and it is relatively quite, but certainly not "super silent". If you want silent, you need intel or via.

Or a good top-end heatsink with a low-rpm 80mm fan (Alpha PAL8045, Thermalright SK-7 or SLK-800, Swiftech MCX462 come to mind).

I have a 1600+ in a PC I have in my family room. I used the retail heatsink that came with a Duron 800. The thing makes hardly any noise and keeps the processor at around 50 degrees C. Pretty good considering it's the only fan in the system (Besides inside PSU)

MechBgon's H/S reccomendations with a Y.S. Tech Adjustable Fan would be hard to beat for cooling and noise level.
You can turn it up or down as needed to control the cooler ot noise ratio.
I have the ALPHA PAL8045 with the Y.S. Tech, and it's great.

I curretnly have a volcano 9 80mm fan running at 2800rpm on CPU (it also comes with ajustable knob for fan rpm). It does the job nicely to cool down xp 1600+ at 2100+ speeds (1.75ghz) but it's certainly not silent and you can easily hear it. Any body know when they will start making coolers for 120mm fans? That way we could get away with even lower rpm fans which will move even more air than current 80mm fan and will run a lot quieter. I would get that.
