But we can have a coffee maker. I take my coffee black, the stronger the better. Thanks.

Best bet, unless you have a stove and can get a percolator, is a kettle and a bodum, then you can make coffee as strong as you want.

In college and you could afford Starbucks on a regular basis? You have too much money, or else a lot of student loans. ;)

(Or else you're lucky and your parents are footing the bill.)

Coffee maker + store-brand coffee here. :)

This; and I don't drink it that often. Usually about once a week, maybe more the week of an exam. During finals last semester I was the first customer at starbucks for about 3 days straight. Went through 3 Ventis a day. :D

Invest in a French Press. For extra bonus, get a grinder and buy only whole beans. ATOT knows coffee.

you want a good strong coffe? don't go to starbucks.

while their coffee SMELLS strong, it is quite the opposite.

Starbucks dark roasts their beans, which allows the oils to flow out of the bean. it make a rich, flavor, but not strong flavor and not strong caffeen-wise. You get a stronger coffee flavor (and cafeen concentration) from folgers in a cup.

how do i know? i used to work as a barista when i was younger.

Ooh! Bonus tip: Read up on the difference in caffeine levels between robusto and arabica beans.

Target has a $20 2 cup coffee machine with a timer. Get that + filters + whatever coffee you want.

You can still buy your nasty Starbucks coffee. They sell grounds at most grocery stores.

Yep. I've seen some of the previous coffee threads. :D

And like I said, complete coffee noob here. I used Starbucks because it was convenient (ie: on my way to classes). That is no longer the case. If there is better stuff out there (and I'm sure there is) yay.

Grinder and Beans. French Roast, Dark Roast, or Columbian for best results(IMO). Try other Beans as the Mood dictates. With Beans, Brand doesn't matter near as much, just try different Brands and Roasts.

WTF ATOT!!! wtf! i am extremely disappointed in you.

argh.

Starbucks? NO Folgers? NO you know why IT IS STALE!!!!! Beans last for 1 week after being roasted, 1-3 days after being grinded. way to recommend stale coffee. I'm STILL a coffee noob and know this. Albeit a bit intoxicated I can recommend this. Find a local coffee place that roasts their own beans (possibly even a farmers market (most college towns have them)) and ask where they get their beans. Buy beans roasted within the week. Buy a cheap grinder and a french press (~$25 total). Boil hot water (even in a god damn microwave) and make some of the most delicious and strong (steeping longer makes stronger coffee) coffee that you have ever tasted.

done. fin. that is all. move the F along.

I use Starbucks, Caffe Verona or Columbia, grind the beans fresh then use a drip cone with #4 filter.

I keep the beans in the fridge but coffee purists would say use a vacuum canister at room temperature instead.

Not a coffee snob here but strong flavor and strong caffeine are not synonymous. I read around out of curiosity and darker roasts have less caffeine than lighter roasts. So if you want strong flavor like a dark roast I'd say french or columbian roasts. If you want more kick pick a lighter roast.

French press is great. I found that it makes good beans taste great and crappy beans taste even worse.

I know for tea caffeine is basically nearly all extracted in the first few seconds, not sure if coffee is the same but if so than a long brew time will impact the flavor but not dramatically change the kick.

In general, darker brews tend to have less caffeine, but Starbucks coffee is heavily caffeinated.

Find a local roasting house and go chat with the employees. Made my regular trip to the roasting house this weekend and picked up some Kenyan AA+ (one of my favorites) and Ethiopia Moka Harrar (a new one to try). I tend to lean towards the medium roasts.

Yeh, Starbucks has obscene amounts of caffeine. I french press my own various roasts and nothing I ever do ever gets my teeth chattering like a cup of Starbucks.
