I have a small deck about the footprint of a mid size car. I dont know the exact square feet. Its nothing fancy, just a deck and stairs. How much should I expect to pay someone to restain it with some basic weather proofing stain?

Thanks guys:)

Do you think you could do it yourself? Considering the size of your deck, it shouldn't take you more than 5 combined hours to power-wash and two-coat your deck with stain. You do have to wait some time for the stain to dry, but it shouldn't be too long.

Indeed. No matter what you do, it will be cheaper to do it yourself indeed.

I just dont have the free time to do it myself. My best bet is getting me and the kids away from the house for the day while its being done.

You should try Ronseal quickdrying woodstain.
It does exactly what it says on the tin.

We re-did our deck. It's larger than our deck, but it took us 5 days in all. That includes the PITA of stripping and restaining the lattice and railing. IMHO, I think I'd pay someone to do it if I were to do it again.

It depends on what you want done. If you just want a coat of stain/seal put on it, prolly $350 or less. If it needs to be pressure washed first then you're getting up around the $500 range. It also depends on who you have do it. A real contractor expects to make real money, anywhere from $35 to $125 an hour depending on where you live. If you get one of the fellows standing in the parking lot at home depot, he would be very happy with $15 an hour.

Yeah, that kind of money sounds ridiculous. We recently re-did our deck (meaning last week... or was it two weeks ago?) and if I could've made $500 from that, I would definitely start a business. Basically, power-washing down our entire deck (approximately 10x20 feet or so), including vertical rails, then staining all exposed surfaces twice. My dad and I got it all done in about 8 combined hours (keep in mind our deck is probably bigger than yours), and we went through 3 cans of Sherwin Williams stain ($30 a can, but my mom is an employee and gets a 50% discount).
