Hey.

Basically I just want to get some ideas for motherboards out there that are good for use in 3D apps such as Max, Maya, zBrush, and all that. That's what I do, work with millions of polygons. I currently have a Chaintech NF3-250 board with an Athlon64 3000+ and 1gb memory (soon to be 2gb maxed out). Things are pretty good but it can get bogged down sometimes when I have a lot of stuff in a scene and I am trying to move around or just do whatever kind of work I need to do.

Could anyone recommend some better boards that I can use my cpu in and also upgrade to a better cpu in the future; plus I need to be able to put more than 2 gigs of memory in there. I'm going to look on newegg too, I just thought I would ask here first.

Thanks all.

EDIT: and should I think of going Pentium?

Is that a Socket 754 board with AGP? And you want a board with a PCI Expressx16 slot? If that's the case it's not really about what's best, but what's even available.

For socket 754, regular ATX, and PCI Express x16, it looks like you only have 3 choices at Newegg.

You've basically reached the end of the line for CPU upgrades in a socket 754 board. Time for a new platform if you want something better.

hmm... well throw something out there. What is a really good system board and cpu for this sort of thing? I suppose some sort of multi core intel board yes? I cant really afford to upgrade my video card, so I'll leave that alone right now.

You'll need a new graphics card if you get a new motherboard. I thought that was why you wanted a new motherboard for a new PCI Express graphics cards. That's probably the most important part of your system for 3d applications. If you're really serious about 3d apps you'll want an ATI FireGL card or a Nvidia Quadro series card, and they are seriously expensive.
