I'm looking to possibly buy a ATRIX 4in1 Combo CSCI-L8003-C43 Black/Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 480W Prescott Version Power Supply - Retail. But I want to use it for an AMD 939 motherboard. From the Pics it looks like the power connector is 24 pin, but in 2 pieces. Will this still plug into the mobo without problems? Or should I avoid cases with this type of power supply?

Thanks in advance.

You should use a brand name, quality power supply. Take a look at Seasonic, XClio, Antec, Enermax. The big brands. Any "Prescott Version Power Supply" should run fine with an A64.

In general, you should avoid any case and PSU combos unless they're from Antec.

Do not use the generic PSU that comes with the case, you definatly want to replace it with a quality PSU. I had a generic 400w PSU that blew and took out a $180 motherboard..if you like the case you can get a seperate PSU. If you want a recomendation for a good case that comes with a good PSU, Antec Sonata II.

Now why would that be 100% true?

In all honesty alot of people use the generic power supply that has come with the case.

But to single out Antec?? as the ONLY Case/PSU Combo is just how can I say it nicely....

maybe Kensai is an Antec sort of person!!

Don`t misunderstand me.
Antec is a quality brand!
Yet there are other Case/PSU Combo`s that bear mentioning!

Have a nice day!!

Notice the part where I say, "In general". Over the 150 high end systems that I've built, most have friend cheap generic-ish PSUs forcing me to replace them with buffer quality PSUs.

Examples of good case and PSU combos would be good too.
Let's say you would like to power my server,

Dual Xeon 2.0GHz LV @ 3.2GHz
Asus PC-DL
4 port SATA RAID controller from Promise
6 X 400GB Seagate 7200.8
DVD-ROM
4GB DDR400

I hardly doubt thats the case at all!!

I have built many computers for freinds as well as for buisnesses!
I am sorry thats just bogus to state you were forced to build.....lol.....

no you decided to go with a PSU that in many cases was iether not required to do the job or it was just another badge of distinction that could be listed as one of the many high quality components you used to build the rig!!

There are more people than we will ever know who have el cheapo PSU`s and will never tell a sould they are having no problems whatsoever....

Things that make you go hmmmm

Actually, alot of these self building noobs that buy $15 cases with plastic and lights do have alot of computer problems that stem from faulty, crappy PSUs.

That said, my Antec Sonata with the 380W stock Antec PSU has done me well. I did, however, notice some instability once a few HDDs were added to go along with a fresh OC, more RAM, and a 6800GT. I picked up a PC Power & Cooling 510 Deluxe and the instability went away and I was able to attain a higher stable OC.

The true bottom line is....

As long as you have a power supply that can handle the mobo...cpu....h/d etc you should actually have no problems!!

What I have come up against is the person who is so cheap he wont buy a PSU that can handle the equipment he is using!

Why purchase a 350 watt PSU when you really need a 420 watt or better?

Many times I have had friends tell me they bought the latest and greatest Video card and now there computer seems to not be working correctly.
After a few pointed questions such as was your computer working correctly before you bought the card etc....
Its real easy to understand that the PSU was the issue....

Yet with that said....
What proof is there as in articles etc,, stating that a name brand PSU is preferable over a no name brand?
I have read even on these forums and other forums that even the cheapo PSU are made by the same manufacturers as most name brand PSU?

Even in the cheapo PSU`s.....there are basic minimum standards that must be adhered to....

So again my question is.....where the absolute 100% proof?

Finally my best friend has a wife and 6 kids who love to wear good clothes and eat and have a roof over there heads.....thus computer parts if needed are a very low priority.
He recently bought this PSU and has had no problems running his system......why?
His system is fairly high end seeing as how his wife and kids got it for him within the last year and YES it probably was the PSU that came with the whole set up!

I understand there is something to be said for having a high quality PSU?
I also understand that the jury is still deliberating as to whether Dual +12V or a single +12v?

Thus my main point being how much of this is conjecture verses absolute 100% fact?

Inquiring minds want to know?
