What's a practical way to test an LCD monitor in the store?

My options for seeing an LCD in person are limited to a BestBuy and an Office Depot. What would be a good way to test out response time?

One thing I did was to drag a window that contained text around the screen. Is checking how blurry the text gets while the window moves a decent test? I noticed on one the text got very blurry even with the window being moved very slowly, while on another it seemed pretty clear while moving the window quite a bit faster.

I'd like to be able to see a monitor in use before I buy but most of them are just hooked to a display slideshow and not a computer you can get your hands on.

I haven't done this, but something else to check out might be to open paint and make a really big black rectangle and see how the mouse fades when you go over it quickly...

most stores u can return even w/ out a reason(they ask but its not necessary) in the first week or so.

do what i do

i open a command window full screen with alt+enter and type "cd \" then "dir /w/s" boom you have a good idea of the ghosting.

try it on your current computer and you will see what im talking about
