Well in medieval times they were young male servants or apprentice squires, or a knights attendant.

In aristocratic society also known as footmen or performing light odd jobs and entertaining.

Now adays they are mere gofers... that take up alot of taxpayer money for the program. Alot of people would like to see the page program end, as they feel it is a waste of money.
