What I want: Slim & simple, flip phone preferred but not a requirement.

I don't need or want a camera, internet browsing, IM, blah blah blah. I'm looking for a phone that can store my contacts, make phone calls, and send/receive text messages - a nice screen is a definite plus.

Someone had once posted to something like this that was going to come out for maybe $200 or so that was supposed to have a very nice build quality, battery life, etc. but I haven't been able to find that post.

I've had excellent experiences with cheap Samsung phones... great reception and they are tanks. I have dropped my phone more times than I can count and it just keeps on ticking, despite cracks in the plastic XD.

Depending on your carrier, the reception issue will vary though (I'm on Verizon, for what it's worth).

My Motorola V190 is great. Flip phone, no bells or whistles. It is a phone, and nothing more, and was free with a contract.

I love my Samsung A670. The thing is a tank. I have had it for 2 years and have beat the living sh|t out of it (dropped it on concrete several times, gotten it wet, etc.) and it still works. My parents got the family plan so it was 4 for $50. It does have a camera though, not that it really matters.

My two-year-old LG VX6000 has a crummy camera on the front, but it's built like a tank (went for a swim and only needed a new battery, dropped countless times, resides in the same pocket as my car keys).
