Check out this Panasonic DVD player for $166.00 - it should play everything you want.

EDIT: This player along with the earlier revision has excellent reviews. I also own an earlier version of a higher end model -- the RV-80 and it an an *outstanding* DVD player, but doesn't do MP3's or CDR's yet plays VCDs just fine.

The best value DVD players are either the Panasonic RV31 or the Pioneer DV343. The Pioneer is a little cheaper, but it doesn't do MP3...

they both have DD and DTS pass through (almost all DVD players have this), but it doesn't have a decoder. You'll need a receiver if you want DD or DTS. I don't know if this is what you meant, but players with DD or DTS decoding are very rare, and you still need an amp anyways, so they're kind of useless.

I'd definitely go with the Panasonic over the Apex. I believe Apex is bankrupt or just closed up as their website hasn't worked in ages. Also read the Apex players have nothing but a standard PC DVD-ROM drive.

The Panasonic player does indeed have DD/DTS outputs. It also has a powered subwoofer output if you don't have a Home Theater setup and wanted to just add a sub. Another neat feature it has called "Dialogue Enhancer" which boost the Center Channel by approx 7db that really helps with hearing people speak if you don't have Home Theater. The RV-80 Model I own actually has a built in DD/DTS Decoder, but it's discontinued.
