LexisNexis is a credit reporting agency, although they will insist they are not.

They specialize in finding public records and selling them to the larger three bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and Transunion.

LexisNexis is mostly aware of judgements against you, IRS liens, bankruptcies, and other court related matters.

Lexis/Nexis Academic is a full-text database which focuses primarily on business, legal and news resources. Included in the database are law reports, company filings, journal and newspaper articles, broadcast transcripts, etc.

If you've a college graduate, you can probably access their database for free by using your student #.

Gov't agencies also use the service for information on specific people who fail to pay taxes and obligations. Lexis also collects real-estate info, death records, ph#. Choicepoint is a much broader search tool, though Lexis is easier to use.
