Not really, it's better than having gator on your 'puter, although you have to pay a small fee for a service with ip anonymity. Like ten bucks a year or something...

Usenet is not IRC. They're two totally different things.

Anyway...usenet is great, but selection is limited to whatever gets uploaded on a day to day basis.

I've also had good luck with eMule. Not very speedy, but you'll get the stuff you want eventually.
