What's a good yet low cost printer

RU482

Lifer
My mom has a compaq (lexmark) printer that came with the computer I got her 2+ years ago. She rarely uses the printer, and unfortunately, when she does, it ususally doesn't work very well. She replaced cartridges and they've worked fine, then months later they are crap again.

Is there any way to prevent this? Are lexmark printer cartridges just junk?

I'm thinking about just getting her a new printer. I've had an Epson for about just as long and it's printed literally thousands of pages with few problems.

Is Epson a good brand? If not, what is? Probably just need a base model that will do color. Prefer something that has cheap (or at least cheaper than lexmark) to replace ink cartidges too.

Thanks

If you do get an Epson, be careful about getting a photo printer that uses six colors, the light Cyan, and light Magenta go out very quickly, they last a third as long as regular Cyan, and Magenta.

redly1, maybe it's just the print head becoming clogged, just have her print a small page that has black & color on a weekly basis and see if the ink carts last longer, hope this helps 🙂

If she rarely uses the printer it sounds like what she needs to remember to do is to clean her print heads throughly on a regular basis.

<< do u need to print in color? if B&W is all u need... the lexmark e210 is like $75 after MIR. look here 🙂 >>

I've got that printer and love it.

Prints out perfectly clear text very fast.

A breeze to setup too.
