Cheap, about $5 a month, and not 1and1. I'm tired of their crappy numerical usernames (there are like 3 different ones!) and restriction on linking to directories.

That would most likely be HyTekJosh of HyTekHosting.com

WinkOsmosis - Cheap as possible would be to register a domain then sign up for RippleHost web hosting for $10/yr which has a current FREE DOUBLE UPGRADE special offering 200MB/4GB instead of the usual 100MB/2GB. You also get a better control panel (cPanel), email, webmail, PHP, etc.

AddAction.net

would definitely reccomend them

I had them. Hated it. If I went over the space limit and deleted files, it would take weeks for the new number to show and I would get billed. I emailed them to cancel when I got 1and1, but they never cancelled. Now that I have a new debit card, they are emailing me to pay, and I am emailing them saying I cancelled, but all I get is automated responses.
Also their control panel and/or subdomain system sucked. Usually when I tried to make a subdomain, it would mess up and end up being some recursive stuff that created a URL that went on forever.

I dunno how much space I will need. I'm gonna use this site for several different things. Also I have a domain. Would also need email (my @mail.utexas.edu address is too damn long). So yeah, I don't think it would be a good idea.

Very good tech support, they're worth the extra money.

Agreed.

I may have a 50% off coupon which still works so for $5/mo you get a resellers account, 1GB disk space, 10GB per month bandwidth, email/webmail, control panel and the ability to host multiple domains.

Actually, Ross --- That was me :p. I needed some money at the time so I sold it cheap. If someone is interested I could still offer that.

WinkOsmosis if you are looking for reasonable specs I think I could help you out. Send me a PM if you are interested.

FoBoT is using me for email hosting at the moment.

I'm with Dixiesys since October '02. I do NOT recommend them anymore, they seem to like to "secure" and "move" their servers often, and I can't say how many times my site has gone down.

Their website is really ugly though.

I am really good friends with the owner of that site, and therefore, I can tell you that he is currently working on creating a new website. That one was simply created about a year ago to start off his business, and he is doing well now so he is having his website professional redesigned.

Ripplehost is working for me . . . pretty intuitive control panel (even for a noob) . . . and CHEAP!

However, IF you need tech support, Ripplehost only offers it's Forum . . . did I mention it's CHEAP?
($10 a year with a "special" for double the space and bandwith))

Thanks, RossMAN, for your hosting tip I found by SEARCHING in a current thread . . . :)

;)

. . . FreeYellow JUST gave me ten days notice that THEIR free service would be discontinued and that $50 a year was the best they could do for me . . . . :p (I am redoing my website now; fortunately, it is RAINING in SoCal and my regular work is on hold)
