I've been trying to install a USR external modem via any of the 2 serial ports (I have both the 25-pin and the 9-pin ports) on my Soyo 5EHM mobo. For some reason, hooking up the modem to any of the serial ports causes the boot process to stall. The boot process will continue as soon as the modem is powered off.
The USR modem works great on 3 other PC's that I have - one Win2K and 2 with Win98.
After ruling out OS and Modem hardware issues, I'm thinking this is probably a mobo / serial port issue - could it be a setting in the BIOS or are the serial ports messed up?
Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks!
