Swimming/Aqua aerobics FTW. It?s a good cardio workout that builds muscle and doesn?t stress your joints from constant pounding. Even recovering athletes exercise in the water for that reason.
Anything that's going to make sure you stay flexible and mobile while taking care of joints/ligaments. Also not things that aren't going to stress your back too much. Maybe cardio + yoga?
Lifting weights is essential to retain bone density and prevent muscle atrophy. A low impact cardio like swimming and biking would be ideal to minimize wear and tear on joints but still provide a decent cardiovascular workout.
You need to train for all of these, nobody says at 60 you have to max bench, you can do super slows, high reps all kinds of weight training techniques
Cardio on eliptical trainers, swimming all kinds of low impact options
Yoga, martial arts, regular stretching DO NOT forget about these for flexibility.
