hi all,

i'd like to improve the performance of my computer without replacing the m/b.

i'm currently running a PII400@448MHz on my Asus P2B-F (i have tried 4x 124FSB but it's not stable), along with 384mb of PC133 ram, an old pci TNT vid. card, and a cheapo CMI 5.1 sound card......i've tried using a sloket with a cel 700 i have lying around, but i think the slocket is dodgy, won't even boot!!

i'd appreciate any suggestions you guys may have......i'm a novice oc'er by the way!!:)

thanks

Here's a good resource for you :D Asus CPU-support finder Click "Motherboard" at the left, then pick "Slot 1" and "P2B-F." Looks like a BIOS revision may enable support for your Cel700! :)

I used a 1GHz Celeron on an MSI 6905 Master Slocket to upgrade an ASUS P2B version 1.04, up from a PII 350MHz. Works great.

However, since the 'Coppermine' CPU's are part of a later VRM spec than early versions of the P2B are capable of, it won't boot if the Slocket voltage is not set to one recognized by the motherboard. In my case, I had to set the Slocket voltage to 2.0v, the lowest core voltage offered by the motherboard. On later versions, its 1.8v.

Evan has an ASUS P2B FAQ around somewhere.
