What's a GOOD tv tuner that works with Win2k?

I'm running Win2k only on my machine but my TV tuner is an ATi TV Wonder PCI. Let me say that the Win2k drivers for this thing are junk. It works OK for watching tv (but locks up after a few hours), but you can't even capture video!?!?!?! (says feature unsupported in Ati's software and color's come out inverted if I use third party). So, does anyone know of a good tv tuner (or even capture-only card since that's my main use) that works well in Win2k? If possible I'd like to avoid the Bt848/878 chipsets completely.

I feel your pain, dude.. Got an ATI TVWonder VE.. works great in Win98, but just talking up IRQ under Win2K. ATI's been wayyyy to slow at coming out with working Win2K drivers. But in anyways, doesn't Matrox or some of the older Voodoo card have video capture ability in Win2K?

Are they tuner/caputer only? I'm really not wanting to replace my video card so an integrated AIW type card is not what I'm looking for.

hmm, i have one running 2k, on a dual p3 abit board.
capture works fine...

I have a ATI Wonder VE on my W2K box and it's working just fine. However, I am just using the WDM drivers that came along with the MMC download from ATI. I ditched the TV tuner app that ATI uses cause its CRAP...always freezes up on me. I use DScaler to watch TV and it works fine, it's much more clearer than picture that ATI's software produces. Just be sure to use the WDM drivers from ATI. To capture video I use this great program called ShowShifter, works just like TiVo. Go check them out. Anyway...hoped this helped.

I'm out.

Thanks for the links monolith. I guess I'll give those programs a try. If not I've got an old (manufactured 1996) STB tv tuner I found in my closet. I couldn't get it to work on Win98 when I first got the card but maybe I'll have some more luck now.

I'm using the Hauppauge WinTV-D that I got from that JandR promo awhile back ($49). Works great in Win2k.

Have a Hauppauge card. If I put the computer in to Standby mode, wake up again, then there's no sound while watching TV. But everything else works flawlessly

My asus tuner box works perfect w/ the right drivers...mind you i have an asus deluxe card also ---v6800

BTW it's 5.33 video drivers, 1.1 live capture drivers, and 4.6 asus live software

$49!!!! I've been looking for that card for cheap, they usually go for about $300. J&R don't even carry it now.

I'm using the AIW in win2k and it doesn't work. Well, the capture or the TV doens't work.

"The TV player failed to initialize the video

Ensure the correct video drivers have been installed
and close any applications which may be playing video such
as DVD or WEbTV before attempitng to restart TV."

stupid PoS

Is there any reason why you want to avoid Brooktree/Conexent chips? They are generally very good in terms of quality, and they have very solid drivers.

my hot dealed hauppauge model 697(stereo, digital TV, remote, 5.1 surround) works great in 2k. the software is rock solid stable. my only complaint would have to be the window sizing, i can't get it over 640x480. whats worse, i run my desktop @1280x1024, so the tv window is kinda small🙁

but if you do get a card, make sure it's stereo! i had the WinTV model 404(remote) it wasn't stereo, and i thought it sounded ok. after i listened to the 697, i was totally blown away by the surround sound😀

ohh yeah... and i only paid $50 bucks for that card.

The problem with your AIW and Win2k is the drivers. Look in the Rage3d and other ATI forums. The AIW was in my last Win2k machine and it worked fine as well with specific drivers (though all the rest of em busted the compatibility). I tell you ATI sucks when it comes to drivers, you should see the ATI user forums rant.
