title asks it all.. been researching and reading reviews and roundups but they don't give me any clear idea.

my biggest concerns are stability, performance (including overclocking), noise, future-proofness (i know, the 4600s are not the fastest cards available, but still), and features.

i know it's hard to answer the question, "what's the BEST ti 4600 card?" but if there's an answer to that, by all means put it here! :D

thanks a ton,
kevin

none. hate to say it but in my opinion they aren't a very good choice right now. I'd either get a really good ti4200 and overclock it to ti4600 speeds if you don't care about directx9 shaders and save some money. If you want dx9, buy the best radeon you can find in that pricerange.

i WAS considering the albatron ti 4680, which is just a tweaked 4200. should i care about dx9 support? i mean, is it like a big thing i'm going to notice and whatnot?

MSI scored the best a year or two ago when I got mine.

PNY does some good stuff.

I'd probably get a 9500 Pro though.

Though If I were deadset on nVidia, I'd get a 4200.

Like they say, if you have to have a GF4, then get a Ti4200, such as the Asus one with the fast memory which can reach past Ti4600 speeds.

Either that, or go with a newer card with DX9 hardware, such as the newest nvidia card or one of the latest radeons, such as the 9500/9600 Pro or better.

if you plan on playing half-life 2 or doom3, or any games using their engines, dx9 is pretty much a must whether you are looking for eye candy or speed.

doom3 uses opengl

price/pefromance ratio, the $100 4200 is the winner, speed ratio, the $180ish 9500 pro is the the winner. but $180 is getting close to a 9700np price, which is better than both. you can get a 9700np for around $210

As a owner of a 4600 for 18 months, I can say that:

2D quality is the most important one. Some still produce geforce with blurred and ghosted image. Steer away from them.

Overclockability is the next. Especially for the memory speed, GF4 is memory bandwidth limited at high resolution.

Price. If more than $125 better get a 5600U V2 or better yet, a 9700 from ATI

2D quality on nvidias side depends on the AIB maker. i dont think it has much to do with the chip itself, rather the filters on the board. some can be as good as ATIs and others can be complete crap

what does AIB mean? which cards have superior filters? or, if it's easier, which cards have completely crappy filters?

again, thanks for the replies..

See that I said "some"?

There are some with good 2D quality while some are bad.
