What's a good thin, light and recent laptop?

So...I finally have the money to buy my sister a laptop for college and I'm looking for something that's thin and light (up to 6 pounds is okay, I guess) while being recent enough to have at least a 1Ghz processor. My main concern aside from size/weight, however, is battery life. So the Centrino in the 600m really intrigues me, but I can't seem to find many used ones.

Could you guys suggest some models I should look at that are reliable and all else I've managed? Possibly being new enough to be under warranty still would be a definite plus. Doesn't need to be too powerful since she has a desktop.

Thanks! Save me money on the laptop so I don't have to wait on that iPod :D

Bump for people who are awake now :)

Yeah, I've thought about Averatecs, but I thought that the build quality and reliability wasn't so great on them?

Possibly one of the Toshiba models often listed in the ATHD forum. Two examples that are typical of the offerings here and here (chose one Celeron-D model and one Pentium-M model, respectively).

Thanks ActuaryTim, that was actually really helpful as that'd be exactly what I'd like for her...time to wait for a deal like that to pop up again :)
