my band is putting together a small recording studio to record our next album. we'll be using some nice Energy bookshelf speakers as studio monitors but we don't have any way to power them yet. any recommendations for super-clean stereo receivers or small power amps that we could use with them? we'll be using pro tools and a big mackie mixing console, so we can send outputs at -10dB or +4dB, RCA or balanced 1/4", doesn't matter. clarity is more important than features. we don't even need a volume control.

the rotel stuff looks pretty good (although that RC-1090 is WAAAAAY to much power, but the lesser models are pretty suited to what we need). although just looking at the places that carry them, i can guess they're out of our price range... ;)

dr150 might have a point with the newer digital ES suggestion. i was sort of wishing there was something like that, but without all the surround sound and function switching and tone controls and crap. i'd be paying for 3+ channels of amplification we'd never use, etc. even so, those amps do sound pretty good, and it's in the price range. the digital input is appealing, too, because i can send digital output from pro tools.

i guess i need to check out sound reinforcement and project studio power amps, too.
