i just got my g2 (canada) and was wondering what was a good starter car under 10k canadian dollars?

i know this is a very general question but in terms of reliability, personal experience, overall costs etc?
keeping in mind insurance and gas costs, no suv or 2doors and please, no shitboxes

much appreciated for any help

Don't buy a Civic. They're very reliable, etc., but overpriced. Best advice: avoid American. Buy Japanese. Toyota - boring, but reliable.

Decent advice on avoiding American and going Japanese if you want it to last for cheap. I dunno if a Toyota is gonna be any less expensive than a Honda, though.

I say go with a Toyota or Honda if you can find it for the right price. It'll last forever (or until you're ready to upgrade). Otherwise, try a Mazda or Nissan. They don't hold their value as well, so you'll get them for less.

Good luck.

Buy a mid to late 90's Geo Prizm, if those are available in Canuckistan. It's the same car as a Toyota Corolla but it has lower resale value due to the Geo name. Great car. Otherwise, yeah, get a Corolla or an Accord. I wouldn't get a Civic, personally, the Accords have better build quality IMO.

no offense kingnothing if you personally drive the prizm but those cars are usually widely detested for their rather un-cool exterior

what about mitsubishi

Yeah, get a Galant, I think Toyota and Honda are a bit overpriced.

you get what you pay for tho. i have been in an echo, corrola, and camry. All were much nicer than any sunfire and grandam. Honda is a good choice to. only had experiance with the accord, but it was a nice ride. I would recommend an early to mid 90s camry or corrola

I think that the uncool exterior would be the least of your problems if you buy a Geo.

edit - I'm referring to problems with the car and not with the people who buy/drive the car.

Get a saab 900/9000 or maybe even a 9-3 turbo! They are quick, nice cars, and the engines last forever...I love my 9000. Oh, they are pretty cheap to get too!

Oh, they are fairly cheap to maintain, and get awesome gas mileage as well...Just be on the look out for rust along the bottom of the doors, thats my only complaint..,

Under 10K canadian dollars... so, after converting to US $, I suggest a car by one of the finer american manufacturers...like matchbox.

Seriously....get an older civic.
