I'm looking for a good stand-alone media player (one that doesn't have to be attached to a browser). I'm most concerned about video support. I'm currently using Real One Player V2 GOLD which I like because it can play all the formats I currently have without extra codecs installed, but would like some opinions on others. I have no interest in using Media Player, partly because I can't even get Version 9 to install on my Win 2k machine.

Most of the video files I have are either avi, mov, wmv or swf.

Contrary to pop belief, media player is actuallt pretty good.
It plays subtitles for divx without a hitch, and is compatible with everything except real and quicktime. You dont need wmp9, 8 is fine.
BSplayer is good too but sorta buggy

BTW I re-encode all the videos i have to divx bc of filesize and bc divx is better than MS, apple and real put together. And you can do it with any video file.

Thanks for the info. Does MP8 also play shockwave files?
