Whats a good site to download free, legal classical MP3s from?

I highly recommend Rhapsody. 10 bucks a month, they have a HUGE selection of music and you can burn CD's from them as well.

Oh yes, I know you said free, but that just aint happening. You either pay, or get them illegally.

no suggestions off the top of my head, but have you tried google?

most of the "classical" music is in the public domain, as far as I know.

Only the sheet music, the actual performances by orchestras are copyrighted.

I'm checking out the free 7-day trial of Napster this week -- 128kbps WMA actually sounds pretty decent, better than radio quality if not up to the lossless FLAC on my music server. For $10/month they let you download and play from a PC (the music server in my case) but you can't burn or transfer songs to a portable without paying $1/song $10/album.

While classical music may be public domain, a specific song may not be. One director's compilation or whatever of the same exact song may not be public domain.
