I need a good suggestion for an HSF for my new Athlon 64 x2 4200. Noise is important as I am aiming to build a more silent case. I do OC so I don't know how silent I can get on the HSF. :) Any specific model you guys would recommend?

Also, how would I go about removing the chipset fan on my mobo and replacing it with a heatsink? I want to eliminate as much noise as possible!

thanks :)

Termalright XP120 is a crowd favorite Scythe ninja alot like also, I use the Big Typhoon for my 4000+. As for chipset coolers never knew them to be that loud but on the thermalright web site they sell them also.

Remove the motherboard from the case and flip it over you can pinch the ends of the posts that hold the chipset fan on to remove it.

XP90. I have 4. Cheaper than the 120, and you don;t need more.

Freezer 64 Pro...equal or better performance than the XP-90 and cheaper too. Also uses stock AMD retention mechanism for 939 AND AM2, so no fuss.

I've got one in my AM2 system and it runs cool and quiet (no pun intended ;)). At 2.66 GHz and 1.344V, I idle at around 32C and load at 42-42C.

My parents have an AC Freezer 4 in their 3 GHz Northwood system and it also runs very cool, idling at 33C and loading at 51C (which is very good for a 130nm Pentium 4 at 3 GHz)
