So my windows media player is going crazy since i upgraded to 10. It doesn't play all the files I have anymore, especially xvids

Is there another software thats free and also plays all the same types of files that windows media player does?

Zoom Player.....or Media Player Classic. Feel free to choose anything else that sucks. :)

Cool, media player classic worked.

mplayer looks like its just for Linux.

I use Videolan whenever I have a hard time running a file. It sucks for skipping around videos though.

gomplayer
-supports most formats, comes with codecs-
-lets you take screenies of specified succesive frames (very handy for making animated gifs)
-fully customizable keyboard shortcuts/mouse buttons-
-lower system requirement comapred to any other player (FFmpeg based)-
-plays incomplete/broken files-
-comes with a built-in 10band parametric EQ, supports winamp plugins-

using YV12 / VMR7, it looks every bit as good as mpc video quality wise.
