just got a 955x board with a P4D CPU...
now i need a new power supply to feed the Dual-Core architecture...

so - my box

Hitachi 500GB (1)
6600GT video

so - not a huge power hog...

best bet for quiet/good power with the ability to feed the Dual-Core CPU?

oh - and i have the Antec Sonata case

Seasonic S-12 500 watt for clean, quiet power.

For being on a budget, Fortron/Sparkle. From 450 to 550 watt.

I think even a 400W Fortron/Sparkle will be enough to power your system reliably, but it wouldn't be very future-proof.

but in the sense of buying a P/S that will live through the SLI days... 550W is a good choice, right?

also, it's not using 550W unless you push all of it - it's more of a ceiling number

Not really, even the highest clocked P4, 1900XTX Crossfire system would probably top out at 350-400 peak.

Rather then getting the most powerful PSU you can afford you should be looking to get the highest quality PSU with the right about of power you can afford.

toadster,,you need to do alot more reading on PSU`s...because 550watts should be continuous.....
Peak should be somewhat higher...such as 600watts,...etc

I run my 975x and PD 930 with that supply. Good stuff.
