I got some wheels now so I want to save up for a fishing trip this summer. I am just wondering what is a good place to fish within the Midwest USA?

I will be fishing off the shore due to lack of boat but I dont like boats anyways. I live in central IL and I have fished southern lake Michigan before in Chicago.

Is there any other great fishing spots to go to for a weekend? It will probably be sometime in late July, possibly early July pending funds.

So recommendations?

About every 50 feet in either Minnesota or Wisconsin. My favorite place is the BWCA but that covers a lot of area.

Pretty much any lake or stream in Minnesota and Wisconsin will fit your bill. The further you go north, the better.
Those saying there's no good fishing in the Midwest are insane.

I don't know exactly where you are in Central Illinois, but I live in Bloomington and I've been tearing them up for the last two weeks. The hottest spot right now is Lake Evergreen which is located in Comlara Park

Very close by is Lake Bloomington which has also been very good lately.

Also, Clinton Lake near Clinton has several nice fishing spots.

There's no shortage of good fishing in central Illinois. Also try the smaller streams that are spread all over for small mouth bass. Look for shallower spots where the the water is moving, but not very fast. A nice rocky shore or bottom means good fishing.

Anywhere in Michigan. Seriously, your question is so general its hard to answer. There are literally 10s of thousands of places to fish, if not more.

Yeah there's tons of places to fish. I know. I'm from the UP of Michigan. :)

How about Sturgeon Bay, WI?

Lake pepin was good to me last weekend :).

LOL, you just can't eat the fish from Lake Pepin, it's basically minneapolis toilet water. Fortunately, the lake acts as a giant filter sucking all that crap up so that us south of lake pepin get nice clean pure fish.

Southern Illinois...

Lake Kinkaid - Musky, Walleye, Bass
Devils Kitchen - Bass, Rainbow Trout, Bluegill
Little Grassy - Bass, Crappie, Catfish, Bluegill
Cedar Lake - Bass, Crappie
Crab Orchard - Bass, Crappie, Catfish
Lake of Egypt - Bass, Crappie

If you head down lmk and I'll give you some tips for where to go and what to use.

Middle portion of the UP of Michigan isn't that bad. MN is pretty good, Northern Wisconsin isn't bad. Really just drive north til you come to bait shops and ask around.

You have it backwards.

The Mississippi becomes more polluted the further DOWNSTREAM you go.

This is true with most Rivers in the U.S. since every tributary adds more waste/ agricultural runoff.

We have a few decent tourneys up here all summer long. If you're already planning to be in the area it's worth it, but don't make a special trip.
