My roommate has been snooping around my computer, is there any way I can password protect my computer in the strictest way possible? Basically, I want a program that asks for a password, if the wrong password is given 3 times, then it shutsdown or something to that extent. I don't care for locking out programs, I want to lock out EVERYTHING. I'm using windows 2000 by the way.

how about a bios password?

and how is he browsing ur pc? ur using windows2000, u should set it up so users must log in. if that is the case, make him a user account with only "user" privs. then in his account, don't let him see hidden folders (if that is possible).

why not just lock the machine when you get up from it? go to the ctrl-alt-del menu thing and hit lock.

when you leave the workstation, just lock the computer "CTRL-ALT-DELETE" then hit enter.

The computer will be locked and can only be unlocked when you type in the right password

As others have stated, just lock your desktop. Also, make sure that your BIOS boots to your HD first, in case he's sneaky and boots using Linux or something and reads data off of your HD.

BIOS password would also be a good idea. If you're really worried, you should also get hex screws, to make it a bit harder for him to get your HD, put it in his, and get your DATA :) At worst, you can solder your case sides together. Hope it doesn't come to that.

I ALWAYS lock my computer by hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL + Enter, even when I'm getting up to use the restroom.
