i've taken up running just recently but right now am using a old pair of sneakers (dont remember what exactly they're for). so i want to get a decent pair of sneakers just for running. but i dont want to spend too much on them.. im usually not too picky on shoes but i want something that's very low profile. anything in the less than $50 category? appreciate any ideas. thanks! :)

Plenty.. I would go w/ Saucony though, they're a great brand for running.... check out sales at footlocker, sportsmart, etc, etc... you can find a good pair as low as 39.99 and these are top notch shoes.

Just make sure you find the right type for the arch of your feet.. you want as much support as possible when running, don't want to bust up your runnings legs like I have - it's a real bitch :|

By all means, stay away from Asics. They may make a nice sneaker or "cross trainer", but their running shoes are pure crap. You'd do better buying an off-brand in K-mart.

The best running shoes I've tried of late are New Balance. They're light, confortable, and best of all don't cost $100 like the horribly ugly Nike designs.

I tell ya ePinions.com ceases to amaze me at what they have to offer. You might want to read up some reviews, usually people will point out any flaws in the shoes so you don't have to find out four months later the hard way. Here's a list of all ePinions.com reviews of males running shoes in order of highest rated to lowest rated. New Balance and Adidas seem to receive the highest ratings.

Actually, I've seen the NEW BALANCE M804ATs for around 45 dollar sat Sports Challet a while back while I was shopping for some football gear - I think it was some sort of promotion though - gotta keep your eyes peeled for those when you shop for shoes

Eek - I've had some bad experiences w/ eOpinions... well it's just me, so I shouldn't account for the entire site being a load of crap.. but I was searching for some excercising equipment reviews... turns out what I wanted was really scolded there... I bought it nonetheless and I loved it - Go figure. I've had some adidas running shoes, I think they're a bit too much on the heavy side though, I run X-county, and I'll tell you, that after a long stretch the extra ounces really matter, and play greatly on the burning of your calves... ouch :(

I've been wearing New Balance for years. They are great. Look around, you'll be able to catch a good pair on sale. (Academy Sports, Shoe Station, etc.)

Look at Nike Presto's. I like mine. Check out Champ's Sports. I saw them for around 40 bucks or so on clearance.

New Balance also seems to be the only shoe maker producing a good portion of their shoes in larger widths.
