what's a good non-5.1 surround system for a bedroom?

i don't want 5.1 since i don't want extra cables and clutter, and i don't really have the space for it all.
but i do want better sound quality, simulated surround and a sub.

are there any "soundbars" that are any good?
my tv is wall mounted so i'd be ok with mounting slim speakers under or to the side of it.

Soundbars require seperate subs.... for a bedroom, go with a highend computer 2.1 setup. Logitech makes a few or perhaps Klipsch.

Room is about 17' x 14', pretty decent sized, rectangular obviously.
tv is hung on the wall on the 17' long side, pretty much dead center.

if a sound bar, i'd like to wall mount it under the tv.
if speakers, i'd prefer slim ones to mount to the sides of the tv.
sub placement will be towards the front right corner of the room.
receiver will be on a stand under the tv.

From the description you gave, you are definitely more into form than function :)

2.1 maybe your best bet, but I can't think of anything that would blend all that well (sub and speakers) given the wall mount requirement for the speakers. They tend to be array of small drivers.

Having said all that, go listen to def tech mythos. might sound ok.

yes, aesthetics is the priority since i don't have much space and the tv is wall mounted so i want to keep the "look".

budget is $500 +/- $200

Is that just speakers?

no, would like it to be for everything.
heck, the 7.1 system in my living room was only $400.
