Anyone recommend anything in particular that you find is good? I want to edit movies, make AMV (Anime Music Videos) stuff like that. I'm going to use pre-existing movies, not homemade ones.

Something user-friendly and with a good learning curve.

I'm willing to spend up to $500.

What platform are you using? Have you tried playing around with Windows Movie Maker (assuming you are running XP)?

Whoops forgot to say my specs

Windows XP Pro SP2
Intel C2D E6600
2GB DDR2 1066 RAM

Yeah, I've played around with Windows Movie Maker, but I feel it's too watered down and only has very few tools to play around with. And I'm pretty sure you could only save files as WMV.

Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 on Ebay

My work use to have this on a few boxes, I messed with it and enjoyed myself, I've heard Vegas is nice too. Adobe has a CS3 version coming out like next month so 2.0 should drop a bit in price then. Premiere has tons of plugins which is nice, and as far as video editing I've never really done much but I spend a solid hour a day for a week at work trying it out and it seemed to user friendly. At first I was like "WTF is non-linear editing?" the interface baffled me and stuff that made sense a week later was confusing as hell to me. I'd love to try Vegas to see what it can to. Vegas is going to be easier to use, but Premiere is going to be something that will give you more once you start to learn it.

Hell you could probably find a copy of After Effects on Ebay for about $250'ish and make some killer titles for your movies (if that's your thing)

I just started working with Premiere Pro 2 last Saturday and today getting done with movie clips. It seems not too hard to learn (I started version 6.5) I got to get used to it. I think you might want to try lite version of Premiere Element if you don't do much of movie making.
