what's a good mod for tribes2?

I don't think there is much out. There's a couple that have some very minor changes but as far as Renegades, Shifter, Insomniax, haven't seen any yet.

I'm waiting for shifter. Shifter for Tribes 1 was AWESOME. Tribes 1 wasn't even that cool w/o shifter.
 
have you played seige and hunter yet? They're pretty fun although I prefer capture and hold. It's a bit new so it's hard to expect any real Mods yet.
