i havent kept up with printers in a long time. my laserjet has got me by. i need a color printer for general use. maybe a few photos here and there. whats the best one lately?
The canon PIXMA range is good. They're a bit more expensive to buy, but they are dirt-cheap to run and give great quality. The canon PIXMA iP4000 or iP5000 are good. They've got auto-duplexing (can print on both sides of a sheep of paper), 5 seperate ink tanks, CD-printing and do high quality photo printing. They're also fast and quiet. I have the iP5000, and I love it.
Check out the Canon i960. It is a more general purpose printer but I'll be damned if it doesn't match those photo printers with its quality. You should be able to find it for about $160 or so. Check out the reviews, good luck trying to find any one that doesn't rave about how good it is. 6 individual tanks, lightning fast speed, its either 2 or 1 picoliter droplets can't remember. The Pixmas are good but are more meant for photos only.
The Canon Pixma iP4000 is the sweet spot (Just received the CR "Best Buy" rating priced at the normal $150. - wonder what they'd think of it at $100...). Can be found at around $100. after rebate as the new Canons are about due.
Looks like all the good Pixma printers are on special this week(end). I've seen the 5k for ~$150, the 4k for ~$100. and the 3k for under $50. shipped. All prices are after any rebates and plus any taxes.
