Ok, i'm new to this DVD stuff. I know what VCD is, but what's SVCD? can you tell me the difference, pros, cons?

You have 2 video formats for DVD players: mpeg 1 and mpeg 2. Here are the 3 standards:
VCD: mpeg1, 352x240 resolution, 1150kbps constant bitrate (players will typically support up to 2500kpbs, and higher bitrate is known as xVCD)
SVCD: mpeg2, 480x480 resolution, between 0 and 2500kbps variable bitrate
DVD: mpeg2, 720x480 resolution, betwen 2000 and 10000kbps variable bitrate
So as you see, SVCD is basically the same as DVD, but at a lower bitrate because it's on a CD instead of DVD. (lower density)
Of course, you should only care about this if you plan on burning your own movies to CDR...
