It would depend on your living situation IMO, choose standing if you can't drill holes in your ceiling to mount a hanging bag, choose hanging if you can :)

If you can, hanging > standing. Canvas will build calouses (sp?) on your hands and feet which are beneficial in a fight, but if you're just looking for some exercise, get a leather bag. Also, do you want a long bag or a short bag? Short hanging bags usually come with some sort of tethering string that runs down to a part drilled into the floor. Long or full size bags don't need them.

Those are great brands, although I would personally go with a long 100lb (or 150 if you can find them) canvas Everlast bag. I'm a leg fighter. Cheap bags to go hell a lot faster if you're using your legs.

If you're interested in just getting a workout, sure. If you're interested in actually building up the strength of the joints in the wrist, building bone density, etc., then don't be a pussy and worry about whether it hurts or not. :p

the water bags i have (century i believe) are not appropriate for hand techniques unless u wear gloves...not nearly enough padding.
