What's a good gun site that covers a wide array of firearms?

For some reason, I can't put "gun" in the infallible vB search without getting this error so if there's a post about something like this, I'm sorry.

I'm interested in getting a gun (most likely a bolt action rifle) but I have no knowledge of the matter. I wouldn't get anything until I took a course in firearm maintenance but I'm just wondering if any of you can recommend a site to go and get some entry level knowledge (not wikipedia) about guns, ammo, etc.

Any help, appreciated.

Thanks

Try The High Road

AR15.com and glocktalk arent as specific as they sound, since most guns guys like most guns

except for that silly ar/mini16 and 1911/every other handgun thing

i suggest the firearms section of
http://www.goldismoney.info/

i just got my first firearms lesson. a friend started me out with a .45 handgun. other than starting me out with a slightly large caliber, verrrry professional. much attention to detail & safety. we also fired a .310 or .308 with a scope. both that rifle and the handgun had about 2500 ft-lbf ratings.

i was going to be taking another class myself this spring.

there are places in Washington state that see so much target practice activity that you could set up a lead mine there.

Please, I've played my fair share of Metal Gear Solid and those things only shoot tranqs. I wanna shoot real bullets. ;)

Dude, the Mosin shoots one of the biggest bullets around, and definitely has one of the biggest bangs around! I love the 3' fireball that comes along with every round I shoot. After shooting it twice on the bench, I had a yellow bruise on my shoulder the next day. :)

Best $85 bolt action you can buy. Hell, best gun for $85 that you can buy!

Anyway, I like the general gun discussion area of www.xdtalk.com. AR15.com gets too overwhelming, it has tens of thousands of users and a hundred subforums. Too much for me, and you can't search that huge knowledgebase unless you're a paid member, IIRC.

Are you in california? If so, www.calguns.net will be your best resource.

Bolt action rifles? Are you into precision shooting? www.snipershide.com will be a great resource. They have a rimfire section too if you want to start with cheap 22's. www.rimfirecentral.com is the main one if you want to talk mainly 22's.

Don't look down on 22's either, they're a cheap way to get started and keep on shooting. My savage mark 2 fv with an upgraded stock consistently throws 5 shots within an inch at a hundred yards and I've gotten them within a foot of each other at 300 yards.
