Getting married in a couple of months. Don't know what gift to buy the groomsmen in my party as thank you presents. Would ideally like to buy them something they would use. Any hints?

I'd post the predictable reply, but I'll leave that to someone else. ;)

Seriously, what do they like? Are they close friends or family members? Get em something they'd like.

A pet monkey. Who could turn down a pet monkey? You would be the most awesomest friend if you bought a pet monkey.

I have seen a variety of gifts for groomsman.

Depends on what you want to spend.
I have seen the groom get a nice bottle of Single Malt.
Also seen the groom give out a nice Leatherman.

Depend on your interests.

My brother gave us personalized swiss army knives for his wedding. Being new to the whole gift-giving to the groomsmen thing, I was all about the freebies.

It would help if you gave a price range.

Normal good gifts (and you can engrave on them to make them special):
Money Clip
Gift Certificates to eat
Pocket Knife
Beside Clock
Beer Mug/Stein (one of my favorite useful gifts)

BTW, I once got a personalized money clip when I was a groomsman. Nice gesture, but it's been sitting in a box somewhere ever since.

I bought the groomsmen in our wedding an engraved divot repair tool and personalized business card holders.

Wedding 1 - My half-brother: Engraved Cross Ballpoint Ben
Wedding 2 - One of my best friends: Silver cufflinks from Tiffany's
Wedding 3 - Another best friend: Bottle of booze. :p (Ceremony = substantially lower class)

the best man in the wedding i was in received a pocket watch. He likes pocket watches, so that is what he got.

Thanks for the hints. I don't think a money clip would be pratical. A nice watch may be out of my price range. But there are some good ideas here. Thanks.

the most recent wedding I'm aware of that info for, the groom gave the groomsmen shoes. heh. it was kind of weird, but kind of cool too. (he manages a soccer store.. they wore black gazelles with the tuxes).

at our wedding, we gave the groomsmen the tux jackets. they got something else too, I just can't remember what now (it was 23+ years ago). the tuxes we wanted we couldn't find to rent, but one of the formal wear places was *selling* their inventory of exactly what we wanted, 10 bucks/jacket.. I got 2 myself! so.. we bought their jackets, they rented the rest of the outfit.

I think my husband got an engraved silver shot glass (jigger) (williamsburg kind.. they went to william and mary), when he was in my sister's wedding.
