Well, I sure remember the AT article on how well the A64 handles RAM! 10% difference between PC2100 crap and PC9999x3 ultra-mega-RAM!

I'd rather overclock, but there's all this new BIOS stuff that sounds really daunting...

Its pretty easy really, I learned the basics by myself in about 15 minutes. Just don't play with any of the voltages and you should be fine.

There's nothing under $100 that will improve gaming. Above that, you can get a better video card.

I beg to differ. I had my Sempron running at about 1.8ghz like his is, and although I could play AoE3 large water battles were choppy and I couldn't turn on many details. But since I have oc'ed my CPU another 500mhz I can now turn on features and the game runs smoothly. When you have a Sempron the small cache and low clock speeds can hurt your gaming, but they are so overclockable. Free speed boosts are always good. :D

What under $100 can give him 500MHz more? He can just overclock what he has.

Simply google for information on overclocking. It would take a VERY big post for someone to explain everything about it. Google "Overclocking guide", read about the basics.. get yourself more knowledgable on the subject, then come back and ask for some help when you REALLY need it.

The Newark core as listed above is one HELL of an overclockable CPU, a lot of people hit around 3ghz with it.

754 Venice would be interesting too though.

EDIT: To check the BIOS version simply look at the bootup screen.
