What's a good gaming PC brand nowadays?

I like avadirect mainly for the amount of customization they offer on the parts. There prices are competitive as well. The best deal you are likely to find is to buy the parts yourself and have a local computer shop assemble it for. They shouldn't charge anymore than $100 as the time involved is only ~1 hour, and even that is high IMHO. Just don't let them do the software. I can only imagine how much bench time they would charge to install all of Microsoft's updates.

Two choices for desktops.
1) Build your own - it's worth every second it takes. Which for me was a considerable time investment as I knew little about it. Mine cost well under $1000, and will play everything - so far...
2) Buy a $400 piece of crap at Fry's. Won't play Crysis, but it'll play 90% of the PC Games out there today...
