What's a good FPS rate?

I just started doing some video encoding with a program called ConvertXtoDVD and I was wondering how my computer matches up in terms of FPS. On average it encodes the files (which are usually around 350meg) at about 35fps on the normal priority. I can jack it up to about 40fps if i set the priority to highest. I'm using a P4 2.66 with 1 gig of pc3200. It doesn't really take that long to encode the files so i'm not complaining i'm just wonddering how much better the speed could actually get?

what software. what conversion.
i have conversted at 300 fps (in linux using mencder, from <can't remember> using the libavcodec mpeg4 and mp3)

my sempron 2400+ has converted to xvid (linux mencoder can't remember start codec) using fixed_quant at 30 fps.

depends on youi settings tell me program. upload a file somewhere and i'll experiment ad tell you what a dual core opty 165 can do.

edit. sorry i ignored the convertx to dvd part it seems.
