it's not just about access, although someone may attend something like a parade or event in the city streets or concerts in parks where you have zero access to alcohol, and wouldn't mind imbibing. more power to them. it's also about cost. when going out and about to regular places and/or to events from sports to more, one may want to have access to their own liquor at a fair price in between the stops, without having to pay say $12 minimum or more for every beverage, every single time. again, more power to them. a flask is a fine vessel for these occasions, and high quality liquor is more than appropriate. sipping from a flask is more than gentlemanly. unless you are some new school bring us more of dem' hippie rules on how to behave folks.

clearly you live in the boonies where even at special events a frosty beverage is like max $4. cause they just ain't that special.

I just put whatever I want in a pocket or down a sleeve of my coat. I have a big coat, but even if you don't it's easy. You carry the coat over your arm with your stuff in a sleeve between your arm and your body, it's a flawless plan for anywhere that doesn't have actual security. Drinking out of a bottle isn't a lot better than drinking out of a flask though, but you will get a little more scent and flavor that way and it's simple enough. Loading up an insulated steel bottle with a wide mouth is better, but if you're not very graceful it can foam everywhere.

Forget the flask, I carry around a 1/2 gallon of whiskey for effect.
