Whats a good drawing tablet

I've been looking at the Wacom at newegg.

here

are there any drawing tablet enthusiests out there? any review sites on this hardware? Should i think about getting the laptop and tablet pc together? I have been thinking about getting a laptop, but would the integrated version of the two be benneficial?

Not really good at drawing but I've always wanted to get better :/ Anyway, I hear that the wacom ones are respected. For $80 it can't be too bad of a buy.

memo, you probably don't need anything more than a Graphire3. The Intuos2 line is very, very nice, but they're professional grade, and probably more than you want to spend. Some big differences between the two lines include that the Intuos tablets have drivers with more options, and the stylus has higher sensitivity and the ability to tilt.

When I was shopping for my tablet, some ATers warned me away from the 4x5 Graphire3, saying that the drawing area is just not big enough. I ended up buying the 6x8 (check pricegrabber.com for a good deal), and the extra size was worth every penny. If all you're using it for is photo editing and making graphics, I'd recommend the 6x8 Graphire3. It's more than $100, but if you can find one for around $160, go for it.

okie doke. im looking at the two now. the 4x5 at newegg is $84 and the 6x8 is $159. is there any difference between the 4x5 and 6x8 besides the size? does it transfer data faster? more sensitive?

No, the size is the only difference. The feature set is the same. 🙂

Edit: Looking at Newegg and others, I see the prices have dropped since I got mine earlier this year.

hrm... i was looking at the other Wacoms. Is it pretty much the more expensive they are the better they are? more features? larger tablet size? I need to use it to pretty much edit pictures and create some pictures for a website. any ideas which would be the best for me?

something in the 100 price range is probably what im looking at.

For your needs, I think the Graphire3 would be a very good tablet. Wacom's higher end stuff like the Intuos2 adds things like a larger working surface, better pressure sensitivity, and tilt sensitivity. The Graphire3 already has 512 levels of pressure sensitivity...more than enough for a majority of the people out there. The tilt sensors on the Intuous2 are only useful if you do a lot of digital painting/airbrushing. What the tilt sensor does is it senses the angle of your pen and adjusts the output on the screen accordingly. If you don't need these extra features, then the Graphire3 should be more than capable.
