My wife has a HP Gwen Stefani 607 4.1mp camera at the moment and doesnt like it - she finds it too small and fiddly to use, though she loves the accessories :) Seeing as they are fetching double their new cost on ebay now, im going to sell it for her and get a new one. Im not really up on whats hot in the digital camera market, so whats a good alternate?

Im thinking not too small, rechargable battery is nice, good optical zoom and high quality photos. Budget can be upto $400, would be nice to be less though.

Camera gurus i await your answer :)

Kodak DX7590. 10x zoom, lots of manual settings for you, lots of presets for her.

That's the same camera I was going to recommend. I have the predessor (6490) and love it. 10x zoom rocks. Picture quality is awesome. 7590 is 5MP, 6490 was 4MP.

And it's not one of those tiny ones. It feels nice in your hand.

Can't go wrong with Canon or Nikon.

Personally, if I were going to get a P&S digital the Canon Powershot S2 is the one I would get. It is small, has a 12x optical zoom, image stabilazation and is 5.0 Megapixels. It would be a slight stretch of your budget but well worth it at $469 through B&H Photo.

Lmao, believe it or not, I'm going to recommend the EasyShare also :) Just won it (along with trip to 2006 Winter Olympics), and have been using for about 2 weeks. Very easy to use, fits comfortably in hands, and picture quality is good. I love the printer dock, as I don't need to hook it up to my pc to use, and it's fun watching the thing print pics out in blue, yellow, and red, and then finishing it. Only complaint is the quality seems to be bad when hooking it up directly to my tv.

I can't help but shudder at the thought of Kodak recommendations...

perhaps they have turned themselves around this year, but their old stuff is just junk

Why would you buy a Kodak digicam? It's really not that hard to transfer photos from the digicam to the computer. You can do that w/ pretty much any digicam w/ the cable that comes w/ it. Read up steves-digicams.com and dpreview.com and decide which Canon digicam falls in your budget. I think you should go w/ one of the Canon A or S series digicams.

Sweet ;)

yes, please please don't buy a piece of kodak trash, you will regret it in the upcoming years

Why do you say that?

because every person that I have known to own a Kodak (and by every, i mean 5 or 6 people) have had problems with it within 16 months of the purchase. They bought it because of the little cradle/dock whatever, thought it would be the easiest thing to use, and now regret it. Perhaps Kodak has turned their products around now that they are entirely focused on digital...but they still make me uneasy.

We have a winner

In the digital camera world, Canon > everyone else.

I have the A510 myself, and also looking to purchase the Powershot S2.

I'll sell the OP my A510 for a really good price, it's brand new, only used 5 times at the most. And I'll throw in a carrying case for free. :)
