I think the Amazon card is good. If im not mistaken for every 2500 you charge you get a 25 dollar amazon gc? Someone correct me if im wrong.

many cards offer 1% (or more) "cash back" on your purchases, so you would probably be better off with something else (like discover card) as $25 back is more useful than a 25 dollar gift certificate.

That being said, I thought the "amazon" type cards gave something like 3-5% back for GCs (maybe only 5% back on purchases made at that retailer, though).

Do you usually carry a balance?
If so, then look for the card with the lowest APR.
If not, then look for one with rewards like GM or the ones that Aceshigh and Hector13 mentioned.

If you order a lot from Amazon, then its worth it. Triple the points for each Amazon purchase. They also give you the signup bonus too...

I liek Advanta because they gave me a 6.9% fixed interest rate, and a 0% introductory for 6 months :)

haha, everyone hates a different company.

personally i like capital one because it's been generally pretty low hassle, and the online stuff is easy (although i haven't tried online with any other company). i have a providian that's always sending me stupid opt-out "privacy" policies and stuff.

I really like MBNA because they have a program called shopsafe that lets you generate temporary card numbers w/spending limits for online purchases. I've had my card info stolen twice online so this is very important to me. There are other cards that do this too...I'd be sure to look for that feature.

And regarding credit card usage in general, my only advice is to get one card and one card only. If you max it out, do not get another one, just pay off some of your balance so that you can use it again if necessary. This will save you a lot of trouble.

None - credit cards are evil. Almost every divorce in the US has some wife or husband abuse of credit card story to tell.
In this country that demands immediate gratification, credit cards are really nice to get the thing of the moment.

A credit card is only good as the person who pays its bills...

APRs, gimmicks, cash back, they all are different... so it is hard to classify. However, if you miss your bills or go over your limit, you are fvcked, and I think thats why some people form certain opinions about the cards...
