I'm a sophomore in college and turned 18 in August. I need a credit card to build credit with (and to buy things). Which one would you recommend and why? Which one is easy to get if you have no credit but not bad credit?

my first credit card was the student discover card. it was easy to get and i had no credit otherwise, plus you get 2% back on everything you buy.

American Express Centurion is a good start. Either that or Diner's Club.

If you have a lot of credit inquiries (every time you apply that's an inquiry) it negatively affects your credit.

So I have good news and bad news.

Good news - I know of a credit which you are 99.99% guaranteed to be approved for.

Bad news - It requires a deposit of $300 - $1000 they keep your money for 1 year, after you've used your credit card and made on time payments. You get your money back plus interest earned.

Which bank do you bank with?

if you can be responsible with your cc then ask your parents to give you one that is connected to there account, that way you will get low apr% and your cc history will be growing just make sure that you pay the bill on time.

Unfortunately, having a card hooked up to an account that is originally in somebody else's name will not affect your credit in any manner. Since you're not responsible for the bill and they are they're the ones who have to pay it in time, and your card is merely an appendage on their account. A co-sign (parents co-sign for you and put their name on the application with yours as a show of good faith) will benefit your credit, but simply getting a card from their account with your name on it won't work. I could get one for my cat. It would say Abby Cat, but it won't help her credit :p

Skoorb is correct. Just having your parents add you as an AUTHORIZED USER may appear on your credit history, however you are not shown as a borrower.

sweettart's two best chances for getting a credit card are:
1) Get your parent, brother, neighbor, co-worker, or boyfriend to co-sign with you.
2) Go to your local bank or credit union and apply for a secured credit card.
