My computer is actually right next to the baby's room on the same wall as the crib, and there's a window right there so I could easily run a cable through. Just have to find a low-light camera then.

Didn't mean to derail the thread, though!

i dont know from experience, but from research it seems the hd5000 from microsoft does well in low light, or any light for that matter. it seems the best budget webcam right now... i have looked into this recently because i wanted something for my front door.

I would also like to know. I wanted to get one to set up as a baby monitor.

I was looking at this one but not sure if it's a good choice or if I should consider others:

The C310 is generally considered a good budget webcam and highly rated. It does not have a glass lens but a plastic one. But you would have to go to a higher end cam to get a glass lens. This usually is considered to give a better picture by most. At this price point you won't get a glass lens. Great choice for general use however.

Are current plastic lens webcams like the C310 which is quite good better or as good as the older glass lens webcams? I've got a Logitech Quickcam Comm Deluxe which has a glass lens from 2009 and the quality looks roughly the same as cheap webcams today from what I can see in youtube.
